The School of Human Ecology at Tennessee Tech University invites candidates to apply for a full-time, 9-month tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2025.
The School of Human Ecology seeks an enthusiastic and innovative colleague to join our growing Architecture and Interior Design concentration. The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching at the collegiate level in the content areas of design studies, architectural design, or interior design. We seek an experienced faculty member who can create studio and lab experiences, guiding students to acquire critical thinking skills as well as competitive technical design skills. Expectations for this position include teaching three undergraduate courses per semester, engaging in professional, community and university service, and to produce research, publications, or creative expressions relative to their professional expertise.
Required qualifications:
PhD or terminal degree from an accredited institution at the time of appointment in Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Urban Planning or closely related field
Evidence of successful teaching of undergraduate courses in design studies, architecture, interior design, urban planning or closely related fields, and active student engagement
Evidence of or potential for research, publication and scholarly activities
Oral and written communication skills at a level appropriate to convey information to and from students, colleagues and others in a clear manner.
Experience with and competency in relevant industry-standard software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe InDesign, Sketch Up Pro, Photoshop, etc).
Preferred qualifications:
Post professional degree in Architecture or Interior Design
Professional experience and/or licensure
Demonstrated experience in teaching and coordinating undergraduate architectural design labs and studios
Knowledge of curriculum design, experience with various teaching methods including online delivery and assessment of learning
Experience with accreditation processes, such as NAAB or CIDA
LEED, WELL, EDAC, CAPS certification or other relevant certification(s)
Proficiency in design technology such as virtual reality, AI, 3-D Printing, Plotters, Augmented Reality, and/or Rendering
Our School is home to approximately 220 students. We offer two Bachelor of Science Degrees: Human Ecology and Design Studies. Within Design Studies, we offer two concentrations: Architecture and Interior Design and Fashion Merchandising and Design.
