Position summary: JMT Architecture’s Higher Education Studio seeks an experienced and passionate architect to join our growing team dedicated to design and technical coordination of large-scale new and renovated higher education facilities featuring teaching and learning spaces that are both innovative and technology rich, embracing the newest trends in pedagogy.
Our studio arrangement successfully combines the technical competence, variety of talent, and management expertise available within the larger firm with the hands-on, personal service of a small firm. Our studio provides focused expertise in architecture, interior design, programming, planning, and research to create inspirational environments that foster learning and intellectual enrichment.
Responsible for performing all phases of architectural work from conceptual design through construction administration.
Essential functions and responsibilities
Be responsible for the integration of design and technical aspects of the project and for the clear and timely communication of information to the project team and compliance with the project team’s goals
Through research, study, and consultation with outside consultants and professional societies, keep informed of new developments and systems as they influence the individual's particular field of architectural practice and design
Promote technologies and methodologies to create innovative approaches and improve technical quality of work product; keep abreast of new technologies, changes in building codes, and advances in the industry
Work collaboratively in a cross discipline environment to produce integrated project documents, and insure integrated design approaches and solutions
Participate in design and provides full support through the entire project
Present directly to the client on technical and design solutions
Ensure quality control reviews throughout project completion
Work closely with the Project Manager to execute project plans
Research, coordinate and/or produce CSI specifications
Coordinate with Project Manager to directly supervise the teams' design and technical delivery
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on specialized systems
Liaise with Project Management, other Architects and consultants
Develop and represent lead technical viewpoint on projects
Coordinate with Director and Department Head on appropriate technical solutions and product strategies
Nonessential functions and responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned
Preferred Experience
LEED AP accreditation preferred.
Experience with business development and marketing preferred
Higher Education and University of Maryland System Experience preferred
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Bachelors or Masters of Architecture
Minimum of 8-15 years of architectural design experience
Professional Architect License
