Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for developing an architecture business within the States of Kansas and Missouri, primarily focusing on the Kansas City Metro Area. The candidate in this position will focus on business development, project management and staff development. In addition, this candidate will assist in managing projects and local clients on current ongoing projects. This position requires the individual to lead high level positioning activities along with securing project opportunities while developing, expanding, and deepening client relationships for the company and continuing to expand architectural services across the company. Full management and authority of assigned projects includes, identifying and meeting client expectations, has authority to put together pricing and negotiate price within company parameters, performing engineering services, oversight of project quality, resource identification and management, meeting project schedules and profitability goals. This position may hold major client accounts for the firm and is developing other managers and team members to participate and eventually lead areas of client service, project management, and deliverable production for the clients. Responsibilities
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Positioning and Client Development (30%)
- Develops architecture business plan for the Missouri/Kansas region. Generates project/business opportunities through client contacts to meet company's business plans, revenue expectations and growth strategies.
- Identifies project opportunities well before proposal stage, meets with potential clients and assesses go/no go criteria.
- Participates with internal Delivery Leaders in developing strategies for identifying future business opportunities for the geographic area. Conducts strategic research to aid the development process. Develops new strategic initiatives for building relationships and partnerships for the company.
- Reviews and analyzes market information to acquire knowledge of markets, build relationships, and bring business partners together.
- Seeks leadership opportunities and maintains a high profile in appropriate professional and community organizations.
- Stays abreast of funding sources to assist prospective and existing client's ability to pursue major new projects. In some situations, may assists client with identifying applicable funding sources.
- Attends and represents Bartlett & West at trade/industry functions as appropriate for the specific geographic location
- Establishes and maintains strong, mutually advantageous relationships with key clients/agencies.
- Builds relationships with clients, peer organizations, and business associates.
- Will consult with project managers in the development of business proposals.
- Develops and implements strategies to expand existing market penetrations and enter new markets.
- Coordinates with marketing team for positioning support.
Project Management & Oversight (40%)
- Either directly or through management of staff, manages projects including scope, schedule, fees, QA/QC, revenue, invoicing and project close-out.
- Executes internal project setup procedures in accordance with the company's policies.
- Directs, manages and participates in the production of the project deliverables including but not limited to: preliminary studies, plans and cost estimates, definition of and oversight of design surveys, designs and plan production, project status/review meetings, specification and contract document development and production.
- Manages the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges to projects, timely preparation of invoicing and management of accounts receivable (A/R) and work-in-process (WIP) in accordance with the company's policies.
- Reviews and assesses the progress and financial performance of all assigned projects on a regular and ongoing basis. Coordinates and implements changes in resource assignments, production methods, etc. to achieve optimum efficiency and profitability. Coordinates with Service Group Leaders when additional labor is needed.
- Communicates openly and frequently with clients during the course of a project to ensure that all issues are addressed efficiently to the client's satisfaction. Prepares, conducts and documents all progress review and other meetings.
- Conducts project closeout, including contract closeout, internal evaluation of project performance relative to the budget and feedback from the client regarding our performance on projects.
- Understands the company's client service model and applies these principles to all interactions with clients.
Client Maintenance (20%)
- Track, develop and maintain client records in client relationship management software system. To include: contact information, touch point notes/documentation, opportunities, and estimates of effort and revenue for opportunities.
- Develops and may participate in client maintenance activities with existing and prospective clients and partners. Supports relationship building activities to develop/maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients and partners.
- Develops processes to prioritize and track success with opportunity pursuits from client lists and contacts.
- During the course of a project, leads the client feedback process and disseminates collected information to project team and client contacts.
- Plans and facilitates appropriate meetings with stakeholders (funding agencies, regulatory agencies, clients, project managers, other team members) to provide exposure and value to the client.
Mentoring/Coaching & Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Develop and deepens working relationships with other architecture team members, including architects, project managers and senior management within the company.
- Assists in developing skills of other team members to increase their skillset so they may take on increasingly responsible work.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree required in Architecture.
Experience:
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in design, staff management and business development. Demonstrated ability to develop business resulting in profitable sales and revenue.
Travel Expectations:
Limited travel beyond the geographic boundaries of the office location. Some travel required to corporate headquarters and other office location. 10-15%
