The Sustainability Coordinator participates in sustainable practices, LEED Project Administration and architectural project design under the direction of the Project Architect, Project Manager or Principal, as appropriate. The Sustainability Coordinator is expected to integrate information and prepare coordinated documents under the direction of the aforementioned. This position requires the ability to multi-task on several projects while potentially performing different roles on those projects.
LEED Green Associate or Accredited Professional.
Minimum of five years of professional experience.
Graduate of an NAAB accredited architectural program with a Bachelor level degree or if non-architectural, an undergraduate degree from an environmental or sustainable design or high-performance building program.
Minimum of five years of graphic and/or design experience or comparable knowledge gained in an academic environment.
Proficient general computer skills, ability to quickly learn required software programs including Revit, Green Building Suite, Sketchup, InDesign and covetool.
Ability to work independently and on multiple project teams with medium level of supervision.
Practical LEED Project Administration documentation experience in at least one of the following: LEED-BD+C, LEED-CI or LEED-ND.
OTHER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
LEED Accredited Professional with specialty.
Practical LEED Project Administration documentation experience in LEED Volume Program and the various, additional LEED versions and rating systems.
Strong understanding of building systems.
Strong sustainable design communication and documentation skills.
General responsibilities of the Sustainability Coordinator may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Attain a clear understanding of the Firm's vision and values regarding responsible design.
Work closely with Project Sustainability Integrators (PSIs), Designers and Project Architects to obtain project information and ensure project graphic, written and analytical documentation is clear, complete, concise and correct.
Collaborate with and support PSIs and project teams during early design phases in implementing the six part, three-tier Sustainability tier Achievement Challenge (STAC) in order to create a foundation of sustainability for the Firm.
Assist Project Architect in exploring sustainable design alternatives.
Research sustainable building materials and systems as requested.
Assist project teams with LEED Project Administration documentation and submissions on projects for which the Firm is contractually obligated to do so.
Inform Project Manager or Principal of potential project opportunities.
Mentor less experienced Designers and offer advice, training, and direction.
Develop knowledge of the Firm's sustainable projects and sustainability resources.
Communicate with supervisor daily regarding percentage of billable and non-billable time.
Inform Project Architect, Project Manager or Principal of availability/capacity.
Establish and follow the Firm's filing systems, tracking logs, and archiving standards.
Assist with meeting documentation and formulate telephone conversation documentation.
Demonstrate dependability in meeting task and project deadlines.
Understand and deliver task assignments and ask questions as necessary.
Responsibilities of the Sustainability Coordinator may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Stay informed of the practicality of sustainable implementation into built works; work to achieve Client's goals, within the constraints of the budget.
Effectively discuss sustainable practices with Clients, Contractors, Consultants, and the Firm's internal professional and business support staff.
Manage multiple projects as a LEED Project Administrator.
As a LEED Project Administration resource, advise and support multiple project teams and participate in educational and operational instruction and awareness.
Effectively communicate LEED requirements to multiple project teams and/or project consultants including Commissioning Agents, Energy Modelers and Engineering Consultants.
Become proficient in Revit and its Green Building Suite and other sustainability modeling or analysis software such as covetool, in developing preliminary and/or schematic energy models.
Assist the Firm with the AIA's 2030 Commitment reporting requirements and analyze the AIA's 2030 Commitment reports to assist the Firm in developing an efficient internal protocol for developing preliminary and/or schematic energy models on projects and other potential innovative sustainable practices.
Assist the Firm with Architecture 2030's The 2030 Challenge and other sustainability endeavors, including participation in CORE, the Firm's leadership group advocating sustainable vision, goals and thought process; and the Firm's STAC Program wherein PSIs collaborate with their project teams during early design phases in implementing the six part, three-tier program in order to create project foundations of sustainability.
Assist with sustainable design and LEED Project Administration RFPs and RFQs as needed.
Other duties as logically inherent to this role including the research and communication of alternative sustainability programs including, but not limited to, the following: The International Green Construction Code, Green Globes, Living Building Challenge, EarthCraft, Energy Star, Georgia Peach, etc.
Architectural responsibilities of the Sustainability Coordinator may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform various tasks including but not limited to each of the following project phases: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Construction Procurement and Construction Administration, under the direct supervision of a Project Architect.
Assist in sustainability presentation documentation as requested.
Research sustainability codes, regulations, and standards in collaboration with Project Architects.
Perform non-routine and complex graphic, written and analytical documentation assignments within the Firm's and the profession's standards of care.
Coordinate documents with multiple project team consultants.
Produce sustainability documentation consistent with office standards.
Communicate methods to improve the "project progress" to Project Team Leadership.
Inform Project Team Leadership of unfulfilled professional development needs as may be applicable to the Architectural Experience Program (AXP).
Participate in professional/community organizations and activities.
Participate in continuing education and seminar opportunities.
Other duties as logically inherent to this role.
Sustainability Coordinator may supervise the LEED documentation of PSIs. This position has no supervisory responsibilities regarding other design services.
