The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The Architect will provide Architectural Services for NREL including the preparation and review of construction documents, investigation of existing conditions and restoration, and assist in creation of building and campus standards. Lab design and remodel experience preferred. The Architect position helps cover architecture and space planning, including leased facilities, at NREL’s South Table Mountain and Flatirons campuses.
The successful candidate requires a strong knowledge of materials, constructability, and building systems, and proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT. The successful candidate needs to have strong oral and written abilities to communicate with diverse staff including engineering, maintenance, research operations, Directors, other support. And will also need strong problem solving and technical skills.
Lead, review and coordinate in-house and outsourced design projects, Construction Drawings and Specifications, and construction administration.
Provide space layouts, details and designs for the NREL South Table Mountain and Flatirons campuses and leased facilities. Layouts and designs are based upon NREL standard criteria, user requirements, IBC and NFPA codes.
Meet review, and provide options for work orders and project requests. All documentation is currently produced in AutoCAD. Requires knowledge and coordination in building operating systems including electrical, mechanical, fire safety, and sustainability.
Assist with estimating project costs to help establish reasonable baseline budgets and schedules including contingencies. Analyze existing project conditions, costs of similar past projects, and research project materials as needed.
Assist with investigating, creating, and documenting NREL standards and guidelines for material finishes, life safety, the site, buildings, and workspaces.
