SMMA has an exciting opportunity for a laboratory-focused Interior Designer to work on stimulating projects at our Cambridge office. Collaborate on all phases of Life Science and Technology work, including: programming client needs, technical development, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration
Assist and fully participate in the planning and conceptual design of the laboratories as well as all the associated support, office, and public collaboration space associated with that design
Prepare both design and construction documentation such as: laboratory layouts, laboratory equipment layouts, furniture layouts, interior elevations, construction plans of various types, reflected ceiling plans, associated details, casework and millwork design drawings, finish plans, and the various types of schedules associated with all of drawing types listed above
Participate in the construction administration of projects and review and coordination of all submittals and the observation of the construction process — This will include not only the review of various lab casework, millwork, equipment, finish, and lab equipment shop drawings and samples, but the coordination of the MEP team’s reviews with the overall design
Ability to ideate quickly through utilizing computational design tools
Assist with the development of detailed design concepts
Research manufacturers for all aspects of the project as required.

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Environmental Design in Architecture, or Architecture
NCIDQ Certification preferred
3-8 years of related experience as an interior designer
Experience working with on the technical and design aspects of Life Science and Technology projects
Knowledge of all aspects of the design process, workplace strategy, design and documentation, implementation, and FF&E
Outstanding graphic presentation skills and communicate design ideas quickly
Knowledge of building and life safety code requirements
Computer skills: Strong Revit user and knowledge of Adobe Suite — SketchUp & 3-D Studio Max a plus but not required
