Under the general supervision of the Director of Architecture, the Architectural Intern will collaborate with the Project or Lead Architect. The Architectural Intern will participate in development of the Owner’s program, site, budget, project delivery methodology, and schedule, each in terms of the other, while applying knowledge of the principles of design and construction, building systems and materials, zoning ordinances, building codes, and agency review processes. The Architectural Intern will participate in all phases of a project (schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration phases).
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide architectural support to the Project or Lead Architect in the design, selection, coordination, and detailing of architectural materials and systems.
Participate in design charettes.
Assist in the preparation of preliminary architectural reports, schematic design, design development, and contract document submittals, including coordination of architectural drawings and specs with all engineering disciplines involved on projects.
Monitor progress made relative to internal and owner budgets.
If requested by the Director of Architecture, participate in the firm’s business development activities. This may include preparation of designs and drawings for presentations, and participation in interviews with prospective clients.
Assist the Project or Lead architect in performance of the project’s bidding/award phase, as well as the construction administration phase in all respects.
Assist in field verification, including field measurements and record documentation.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Reports directly to the Director of Architecture.
Minimum Job Requirements
Professional Bachelor’s (B. Arch) or Master’s Degree in Architecture.
No experience to five years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Assist in the design and preparation of design and construction documents.
Ability to research building materials and make recommendations.
General knowledge of and assist in preparation of building code reviews.
Strong analytical skills in understanding and evaluating designs.
Basic knowledge of building construction techniques, products, and systems.
Knowledge and skill in applying general design standards and methods of documentation in the form of drawings and specifications.
Proficient in AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe In-Design and Illustrator.
Practical experience with Sketchup, Photoshop, VRay, and other graphic and modeling software
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Able to work effectively in a team environment.
Available for occasional overnight travel.
Obvious enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work.
