Our client is seeking a Senior Architect / Market Sector Leader (SA/MSL) to grow their municipal sector from their Raleigh, NC office. They are looking for a leader with a combination of business development/client relations and design ability, who brings a proven track record in building a regional/national portfolio, maintaining project profitability, managing design teams, and mentoring and developing individual team members. The person who fills this position will ideally become a shareholder in the firm, and should be able to work as part of a leadership team. S/he should be entrepreneurial, innovative and embrace change. The primary responsibility of this position is to build on the firm’s existing portfolio in this sector to grow the practice both in service offerings and in geographical area. The Senior Architect/Market Sector Leader will, in collaboration with other Principals, be responsible for developing the strategic vision for this sector, creating new client relationships and maintaining current ones, and developing and implementing annual business development plans. The SA/MSL will work in conjunction with Principals and other Market Sector Leaders to support the goals of the firm as a whole. S/he will lead through demonstrating skills in business development, client relations, staff development, and project design and delivery, helping to create and maintain an environment of respect and trust among staff and leaders.
At least 12 years’ experience as a registered architect with a minimum of 3- 5 years’ experience with business development.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Experience in the municipal / commercial sector within an architectural firm
Knowledge of current trends and areas of future growth within this sector.
Proven track record in creating and maintaining a client network and in leveraging that network into business opportunities.
Experience in public speaking and publications and membership in key sector organizations is a plus.
Proven ability to manage and lead teams to deliver high quality projects profitably.
A degree in Architecture with active registration (NCARB preferred).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
Ability and willingness to travel as necessary in support of firm and sector goals.
BIM (REVIT) production capabilities a plus.
